Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
June M. (Rolph) Leaman passed away at home with her family at her side on Monday, August 22, 2016, at the age of 95. She was born to Charles and Anna (Disch) Rolph on June 9, 1921, in the town of Omro and spent her younger years on various farms in Winneconne, Larsen, Vinland Road, and Oshkosh. Milking cows, raising goats, and caring for chickens were a few of her tasks. She was a graduate of Oshkosh High School. One of June's favorite sports was bicycling. With her friends she cycled 90 miles in 2 ½ days around Lake Winnebago. June learned secretarial skills and was employed at the Wisconsin Axle. In 1942 she married the love of her life, Leland L. Leaman. At the beginning of World War II Leland's service took them to Jacksonville, Florida where their first child, Charlene was born. Leland was then shipped to Panama and it was then that June moved to Phoenix to live with her family until the end of the war. Lee returned and they moved back to Oshkosh.
June and Lee had five children; which raising five children was a full time job, but in time she went to work at the University Food Service for several years and then she went on to work as the first secretary of the Religion Department of UW-Oshkosh, where she worked for 16 years.
Together she and Lee enjoyed motorcycling, flying airplanes, gardening, and spending family time camping. June loved to share her talents of needle work. She also served at the Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church through communion preparation, food preparation for the missionary pilots at EAA and the Oshkosh Food Pantry.
June is survived by her children, Charlene Messenger, Barbara (Gerald) Hebel, Susan (Ron) Ames, Michael (Linda) Leaman, Anna (Michael) Murray; grandchildren, Benjamin Hebel, Joseph (Yvonne) Hebel, Chad (Laura) Leaman, Alex Leaman (Jamie Todd), Megan Leaman, Sarah Murray; great-grandchildren, Adam Hebel, Jonah Hebel, Lindsay Leaman, Lance Leaman, Katelyn Leaman, Natalie Leaman, MaKenna Leaman, Leland Leaman, and Armani; a sister, Helen (Bill) Waddoups; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding June in death were her husband, Leland; her mother and father; three sisters; and two brothers.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Algoma Blvd. United Methodist Church 1174 Algoma Blvd. Oshkosh. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Cathy Weigand officiating. Inurnment will be in the Omro Cemetery.
June was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. We know she is in heaven with her loved ones.
A special thank you for Julie, Kim, Jessica, Megan, and all of the Aurora Hospice staff; the love and kindness they displayed to all of us helped us through this time. The June Leaman family.
