Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Dorothea A. Sullivan, age 93, passed away at Evergreen located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on September 9, 2016. She was born on February 12, 1923, to the late Dr. Eber and Florence (Peetz) Simpson in St. Louis, Missouri. A 1944 graduate of the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri she taught secondary education physical education and biology in the Illinois and Wisconsin school systems. Dorothea also worked for her father's medical practice.
On March 29, 1958, Dorothea married Arthur Sullivan at the First Presbyterian Church in Omro, Wisconsin. She resided with Art in Omro and raised their family on the Sullivan Farm. He preceded her in death on August 22, 2009.
During her life Dorothea was active in the Presbyterian church where she taught Sunday School and was an active member in the Women's Association. She was also active in the Eastern Star and Camp Fire Girls. Dorothea enjoyed attending sporting events with Art including the school sports events that their children participated in, and Packer and Badger games.
Dorothea, along with her husband Art, enjoyed traveling. They traveled the North America continent, including Canada, the 50 United States, Central America and South America; the European countries, China, Australia, and New Zealand.
She is survived by four children, Ellen, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Margaret (Michael) Holland, Naperville, Illinois; Joan Sullivan-Owomoyela, Elizabethtown, New York; and Arthur (Megan) Sullivan, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Dorothea is also survived by ten grandchildren, Bradley (Allison) Holland, Jennifer (Shawn) Marks, Sara (Trevor) Love; and Anna Marie, Connor, Colin, Grace, Calum, Ava, and Angeli Sullivan; and one great-grandchild, Isabella Love.
Along with her parents and husband, Dorothea was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Eber and Mary Simpson; and a son-in-law, Oyekan Owomoyela.
A private memorial service was held at Evergreen on Monday, September 12, 2016. A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 19 at 9:00 a.m. at the Omro Cemetery.
Memorials may be designated to the Evergreen Foundation, 1130 N. Westfield St. Oshkosh, WI 54902.
