Irene F. Haedt
Town of Rushford, Wisconsin

Irene F. Haedt, age 91, a lifetime resident of the Town of Rushford, passed away, Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at ManorCare Health Services in Green Bay. She was born January 10, 1919 in the Town of Rushford (on the present Louis Hintz farm), a daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Flanigan) Carpenter. In 1920 the family moved to the Stiller farm on Banner Hill Road and Irene attended Banner Grade School and Omro High School, graduating in 1936. She then worked in Oshkosh for 2 years, and on June 11, 1938, married Orville Haedt at the First Presbyterian Church in Omro. Irene and Orville made their home on a dairy farm on Poygan Ave. in the Town of Rushford, enjoying working together on the farm until 1968, when Orville sold the cattle and went to work for the Winnebago County Highway Dept. Orville passed away on April 13, 1984. From 1969 until 1995 Irene worked at Sayler Survey in Winneconne as a secretary and cartographer. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church, Omro, a 4-H leader, and served on the Rushford Zoning Board for a number of years. Irene's greatest concerns were love of God, family, school, and community, with a great compassion for those in trouble; a belief that every one has a talent of one kind or another; that one learns more by listening than by talking, and she couldn't pass by a crossword puzzle.
Irene is survived by one son, Michael (Cheryl) Haedt, of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Andrea Mendoza, of Valencia, Venezuela; Christopher (Allison) Haedt, of Columbus, Ohio; Jason Haedt, of Milwaukee; one brother, Merle (Flossie) Carpenter, of Omro; two sisters, Eva Mae Coats, Neita Faye (Ralph) Spanbauer, all of Oshkosh; sisters-in-law, Helen Carpenter, of Oshkosh; Donna Rae Carpenter, of Neenah; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Irene was also preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, George, and Arthur Carpenter; three sisters, Shirley Carpenter, Edith Holverson, Dorothy Schmidt; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence Carpenter, Laura Haedt, Floraine and Louis Haedt, Dorothy Carpenter, Hazel and Gilbert Phillips, Lila and Elmer Haedt, Marvin Holverson, Earl Haedt, and Elwin Coats; one niece, Jeanne Verkuilen; and one nephew, Douglas Gafner.
A Funeral Service for Irene will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, with Pastor Ed Slusser officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Cemetery on Monday, February 1. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
Irene's family extends a special thank you to Steve Carpenter for the 2 years of wonderful care he gave to her. They also wish to thank the staffs of ManorCare-West and Heartland Hospice for the care and support they showed to Irene.
