Laura Jean Lee passed away peacefully at Helen’s House in Kimberly, on Sunday, October 2, at the age of 90. She was born in Oshkosh on January 8, 1932, the daughter of Robert and Laura Crowley. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne.

After graduating from Omro High School in 1949, Jean attended beauty school in Oshkosh and worked as a beautician. 

Jean also played the organ at St. Thomas Church in Poygan. When a handsome altar boy named George Lee asked a teenage Jean for a date, she responded that a particular hymn played during mass meant a “yes” and that he would have to listen for an answer. She played that hymn, and later, on October 1, 1952, Jean and George were married. 

Soon after, she traveled around the state with him as he worked in construction. One day George brought home a sand-covered baby bunny that was abandoned at a job site. Jean loved and cared for “Bunny” for seven years. 

In 1960 they moved to Borth where George farmed. They were both very active in the National Farmers Organization. 

Jean continued to play the organ at St. Thomas Church, where she also led the Christian Mother's Organization. When St. Thomas closed, she played the organ at St. Mary’s Church, and taught CCD classes to second graders. Later, when St. Thomas was being restored, Jean and George became active in The Friends of St. Thomas organization. 

Jean’s Catholic faith took precedence throughout her life. She revered Saint Anthony, and told many stories of his intercession and influence on her family. 

Jean was also a talented piano and accordion musician, and she loved playing polkas and old-time music. She spent many years volunteering at area nursing homes to entertain residents with her band, The Senior Moments. Jean was very thoughtful and kind hearted. She cherished the many friendships that she had. 

Jean is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Lee) Lucareli and her husband, Kevin Eichelberger; Sara (Lee) and Paul Hajos; granddaughter, Kate Lucareli; and step-granddaughters, Kahri Hajos and Meredith Eichelberger. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Along with her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Danny Crowley. 

A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E. Main St. Winneconne, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, October 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. 

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Helen’s House, and to Moments Hospice for all of their wonderful care and compassion for Jean.
