John Carl Sauer, 68, of Winchester, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 8, 2022, at his home with his best friend of 16 years, Julie Sorenson and her sister Jodi by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Irene (Baker) Sauer; brother, Jerry Sauer; brothers-in-law, Ron Kaczmarek and Emert Stacker; and a nephew, Jason Thompson.
John was a journeyman in the sheet metal trade for 36 years, retiring in 2009. He was proud of the work he did and passed his skills and knowledge to the next generation. In his early years John was an avid snowmobile racer winning numerous trophies from various events in Neenah (Snow Drifters), Fond du Lac, Eagle River, and as far away as upstate New York. He married Sandra Anunson and has two sons, Peter and Jack. He built his own homes with the help of his family and friends. John stayed busy with building sturgeon shanties, sharpening chainsaw chains, fishing on Lake Poygan, taking a yearly trip to Cass Lake, Minnesota, and flew to Mesa, Arizona to visit with Julie’s mom and dad. John loved when his grandchildren would come to visit. Stella and Delany (Jack’s and Tina’s), Miles and Katelyn (Peter’s). John enjoyed the outdoors, walleye fishing, sturgeon spearing with his son Jack, deer hunting with his brother Ronnie, mowing the grass and keeping the trails open in the backyard and taking the Gator for a ride to visit the neighbors.
John is survived by his sons, Peter (Kayla) Sauer and Jack (Tina) Sauer; grandchildren, Stella, Delaney, Miles and Katelyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Sally Stacker, Mary Kaczmarek, Deb (Jeff) Thompson, and Ron (Barb) Sauer, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. There will be no service held. If you wish please submit online condolences to muellerfh.net.
