Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
We lost our mother and grandmother Jeanne Marie (Weber) Clasen, age 93, on Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh. Jeanne was born to the late Raymond and Sylvia (Ableidinger) Weber on July 9, 1929, in Durand, WI.
Jeanne attended Parochial schools in Durand all of her life until her family moved to Winneconne for Jeanne's senior year where she graduated from Winneconne High School with the class of 1947. After high school she graduated from Oshkosh Business School and began a 4-year employment at Hoffmaster in Oshkosh.
On January 5, 1952, Jeanne married the only man for her, Edward Clasen, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne. She continued working as a clerk at Ed's Gamble Store, as a waitress at The Arrowhead, and seasonally at Miles Kimball in Oshkosh. Jeanne also worked for the U.S. Post Office for 25 years.
Jeanne was a lifetime parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne where she belonged to the Altar Society and sang in the choir. Jeanne was a member of the Winneconne Civic League and Historical Society. During many a Sovereign State Day celebration, you could find Jeanne selling pie slices in the tent at Marble Park with a smile on her face. She always contributed several pecan pies! (burnt crust included).
Jeanne loved golfing and sports of any kind as well as her workouts at Anytime Fitness. She enjoyed many games and puzzles where her competitive nature was evident. She sewed for years and years, everything from doll clothes to matching mother and daughter outfits. She had an extraordinary and creative eye for making costumes. She loved fashion and took pride in wearing a particularly smart outfit. Jeanne was game anytime anyone mentioned a shopping trip. It was one of her favorite things to do.
Jeanne also loved camping. She and Ed took their family camping for many years. They eventually replaced the camper with a yearly cabin rental. For several years, Jeanne was the Campfire Girl leader for Anne's troupe where her love of art and camping was beneficial to the girls.
After Jeanne's retirement from the post office, she and Ed spent 20 winters in Texas as snowbirds. They traveled extensively from there. Jeanne loved playing shuffleboard, swimming, walking, golfing, and dancing with their Texas neighborhood friends. She also loved volunteering in a San Benito elementary school as a tutor with the children. Jeanne loved helping these kids. They went straight to her heart.
Jeanne will be missed by her children, Anne (Jeffery) Otto, of Milwaukee; and Edward Jr. (Bonnie), also of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Jeffery (Kristi) Otto, Steven Edward (Jessica) Clasen, Lauren (Erik) Haapakoski; great-grandchildren, Lucy and Jack Clasen, and Finn Haapakoski; sister-in-law, Sharon Weber; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with her parents, Jeanne was also preceded in death by her husband, Ed; a granddaughter, Carrie Clasen; her brothers, Tom (Marie) Weber, and Frank Weber; her sister, Sandra Schulz; her in-laws, Henry (Joan) Clasen Jr., and William (Barb) Clasen. Barb was also Jeanne's oldest and dearest friend.
It is difficult to sum up a lifetime of one person who was so influential in our lives. Our mother and grandmother lived an active life that she truly thoroughly enjoyed. She was a great listener and was genuinely interested in whomever she was visiting with. Her voice was soft with a ready chuckle and a sparkle in her eye.
Thank you to Evergreen Retirement Community and Promedica Hospice for the compassionate care these last couple of years of our mother, the Queen.
"Hi Honey. I'd just like to talk to you for 20 minutes or so."

Dear Anne and Jeff, Ed and Bonnie and all of the family,
As all of you are well aware, Jeanne was a special person. I can think of very few people that could match her light heart, loving smile and her friendly manner towards whomever she may be speaking. Jeanne always made you feel good, I mean really good, light hearted and happy.
I remember fondly the times spent with Anne at her home, sitting at the kitchen table with Anne and Jeanne and sometimes Anne's brother Ed too. Jeanne knew how to laugh and she lovingly passed on this laughter and all of her kindness and personality to both of her children. We cannot forget that( father) Ed was a more quiet man but always smiling and loving.
God Bless all of the family and may God's light shine on all of you and both Jeanne and Ed Sr.
