Marshall John Proehl, age 79, of Oshkosh, died Sunday, March 12, 2023, at home. He was born February 17, 1944, in Milwaukee to Dr. Frederick and Ruth (Lauterbach) Proehl. Marshall earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Lakeland College. Marshall served his country in the U.S Marine Corps., serving in Vietnam from 1966 until 1968, and was honorably discharged in 1972. On November 1, 1969, Marsh married Dorothy Little in Fond du Lac. In 2009 he retired from the Winneconne Community School District. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren. Marsh was an avid reader and loved music and spending time outdoors. He was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Winneconne.
Marshall is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Proehl, of Oshkosh; daughter, Jodi (Phillip) Plagge, of West Allis; granddaughter, Analeis Plagge, of West Allis; son, Erik Proehl (Laura Koehn), of Mayville; grandson, Chance Proehl (Aly Niehans), of Oshkosh; a brother, David Nimmer, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Marshall in death were his father, Dr. Frederick Proehl; his mother, Ruth Proehl Nimmer; and stepfather, Oscar Nimmer.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church 8 S. 4th St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Ben Berger officiating. Military honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marshall’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
