Dorothy A. Thrun, age 87, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Bethel Home in Oshkosh. She was born on May 2, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late Henry and Adalaide (Tonn) Humphrey. On January 6, 1961, Dorothy married Kenneth Thrun in Pingree Grove, Illinois. Dorothy worked as a registered nurse in various fields, including pediatrics, med surg and geriatrics. Throughout her years of practice, Dorothy not only provided excellent care and compassion to all of her patients, but she also guided and mentored numerous young nurses, teaching them the same care and compassion. After retiring at age 71, Dorothy enjoyed reading, watching HGTV and Cooking Network programs and collecting dolls. She also loved spending time in Florida with family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Ken “Tiny” Thrun, Jr., Winneconne; Brad (Chris) Thrun, Fox Crossing; and Steve (Tiffany) Thrun, Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Meena, Donovan, Conor and Elijah; a brother-in-law, Roger (Carla) Thrun; a sister-in-law, Diane Thrun; nieces and nephews, Jonni (Steve) Janikowski, Mike Youmans, Julie Youmans, Mary Youmans, Tammi Schmude, Rick (Katie) Schmude, Michelle (Dan) St. John, Jeff (Stacey) Thrun, Sheri (Mark) Perry, Scott (Caren) Thrun and Chris (Patricia) Thrun, Robert Penoyer; other relatives and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, Sr; two sisters, Lucy Humphrey and Martha (Lloyd) Schmude; brother-in-law, Russ (Tracey) Thrun; and sister-in-law, Rosemary (Robert) Penoyer.

The family would like to thank her caregiver Sherry Fischer, and the excellent staffs of Bethel Home and Compassus Hospice.

 A celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, 904 E. Main St., Winneconne. Interment will be in Winneconne Cemetery.
