Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Betty Lee Dyer passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Brookside Assisted Living in Kenosha. She was born in La Crosse on October 6, 1934, to Francis J. Lee of Lake Poygan and Emily Chiappe of Chicago.
Throughout her years in La Crosse, Betty attended Holy Trinity School, Aquinas High School and Wisconsin State College where she received her degree in elementary education. She loved to play the violin and performed at many high school musicals.
Betty met “confirmed bachelor” Darrel Dyer, a pharmacist who was originally from Houston, Minnesota, while dining out with a friend in La Crosse, in 1958. Betty and Darrel married in 1959 and settled in New Lisbon, Wisconsin where they owned and operated two businesses, Dyer Rexall Drugs and Dyer Angus Farms. After Darrel’s death in 1979, Betty went back to college and received her degree in educational media. She was employed at Best Power Technology as a technical librarian in Necedah, Wisconsin until her retirement. Betty later moved to Winneconne, Wisconsin where she enjoyed gatherings of friends and relatives. Some of her favorite pastimes were reading mystery novels, playing card games, and completing crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed her evenings watching the sunsets on Lake Poygan from her dock.
Betty was a member of St Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne for many years. She was also a member of Christian Mother’s and participated in the restoration organization, Friends of St Thomas.
She is survived by three children, Doug Dyer of Brookfield; Dan Dyer of New Franken; Debra Dyer of Pleasant Prairie; granddaughter Brooke Dyer and her mother Carol Clementi; and
sisters-in-law, Mary Lee and Billie Lee.
Preceding Betty in death were her husband, Darrel Dyer; two children, Duane and Darrel Jr.; along with her brothers Richard F. Lee and James C. Lee.
A visitation for family and friends may be on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 210 Pleasant Drive Winneconne. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Town of Poygan.

Betty was an integral part of forming the Friends of St. Thomas. This organization's mission is to restore and maintain the St. Thomas Catholic church in Poygan Wisconsin. Betty was a leader in helping to make decisions, raise funds and assisting with getting Masses at St. Thomas organized.
Even though Betty was a second cousin, I came to know her through the Friends of St. Thomas and then further through family reunion planning.
God bless Betty in her eternal life.

I became aware of who the Dyer Family was in the late 1960's, early 1970's as a member of St Paul's Catholic Parish in New Lisbon. The initial introduction happened on one Sunday morning in particular when one of the Dyer Children, identity withstanding, dropped or tossed their Seasonal Sunday Missle over the railing of the choir loft and it landed in about the 2nd or 3rd Pew from the rear entrance, on the St Joseph side of the congregation. Frank Zabrockus and his family typically seated themselves in that area and the sound it made was definitely newsprint paperback on hardwood, or tile but not the sound of the same striking a veteran parishioner. Theresa Kallis and I joked about it soon after in school and that's when I learned the Family's name. Joan Jadoul informed us that " They own the Rexall Pharmacy below Dr. Kock's office. Daryll had this series of driving advertisements informing motorists arriving in New Lisbon from the east along Hwy 12&16 about the Pharmacy and the services it offered. Those plaquards were there for decades. I will always recall Betty as being planned, efficient, functional in detail and, friendly. She was curtious, intelligent and accomplished, but without airs. Betty made those around her successful by promoting the Law of Diminished Returns coupled to the simple principal of investing in one's self. Betty showed us how to have happiness with humility and providence without greed. I was especially fortunate to know her children as accomplices and peers and to know Betty herself as a friend. In the end, Betty used her life learned skills as a sibling, teacher, mother, Aunt and a Christian to example patience, perseverance and faith in our Creator and in one's self to the rest of us. Thank you friend. Goodbye.
