Wayne Russell Mathison, age 82, of Readfield, formerly of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah, with his family at this bedside, due to complications from a fall at home. He was born on September 17, 1941, in Neenah, son of the late Russell and Leona (Breaker) Mathison.

Wayne was a 1959 graduate of Winneconne High School. On September 30, 1961, he married Shirley Arndt; they were blessed with two daughters, Sheryle and Carol. Shirley passed away on November 25, 2004. On March 24, 2007, Wayne married Mary Ann Metko in New London. Mary Ann lived on a farm, so there was plenty of space and land for Wayne to drive his John Deere tractors, something he loved doing. He also loved to mow grass in the summer and plow snow in the winter. Wayne could fix anything and weld anything especially Robyn’s garden ornaments (“Thanks Wayne”).

Wayne is survived his wife, Mary Ann; his daughters, Sheryle Mathison and Carol (Gary) Allard; his step-daughters, Robyn Metko and Sarah Metko; sister-in-law, Sharon Mathison; nephew, Glen Mathison; and nieces, Kim (Brian) Ritchie and Amy (Greg) Wilke. He is also survived by great-nieces, a great-nephew, and other relatives and friends.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents, Russell and Leona Mathison; his first wife, Shirley Mathison and her parents; his brother, Dean Mathison; and a nephew, Scott Mathison.

Wayne’s family wants to thank the paramedics from the ambulance trip to the New London hospital and the doctors and nurses who treated him there, the team on ThedaStar and the doctors and nurses in the ICU at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. Visitation will continue on Saturday, November 18 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester 8396 Steeple Hill Dr. Larsen. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Laatsch officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery.

Wayne, always a very kind guy. Used to help my brother Phil with some of those tough fix projects while in lawn & garden at the Coop. My sympathies to the Mathison family. God Bless.
