Walley Gene Day, age 73, passed away peacefully with his son at his side on Monday, December 4, 2023. He was born in Appleton WI on November 14, 1950, the son of Gene and Germaine Day. He was survived by his siblings, Terry (Cindy) Day, Jeffrey Day, Debbie (Glenn) Hauser, Tracy (Amanda) Day; his sons, Brandon Day, Brent (Laura) Day; four grandchildren, Alexandira, Acelyn, Hadley, Brycen; along with two great-grandchildren, Genevieve, and Wells.
Walley graduated from Appleton West in 1969 where he participated proudly in football, track and basketball, followed by attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He served in the Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976. Walley worked for years as a Salesman at Tri County Dist. in Appleton, followed by being a dispatcher at American Overhead Door.
Walley was an avid Packer, Badger, Brewers and Bucks fan his entire life. He had passion for painting landscape and still life in his younger days. Walley was an outdoorsman, who loved to hunt, camp and play softball with friends. Walley was a great friend to everyone he met, no matter where he was, someone knew his name. He loved to fish with family either on the lake or from the dock followed by a fish fry. Walley enjoyed taking care of his plants, cooking and visiting friends and family.
Walley was a very thoughtful friend, neighbor, coach, son, brother, father and grandfather. He was loved by many and will be missed.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. The committal service will take place at Appleton Highland Memorial Park with military honors at 2:00 p.m.
Walley’s family would like to thank the staff at Bella Vista in Oshkosh for all their compassion, conversations, and support while he was there. Family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Pastor Dennis Ellisen for all the visits, talks and support throughout the years.

I played with Wallet at Roosevelt and West, but what I remember most about him was his spontaneous laugh. It was always fun to hear that.
