Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
James V. Holl
With a heavy heart, we lost Jim to a 2 ½ year battle with cancer, on Friday, February 2, 2024, at home with his family at his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Karla (Braun) Holl; his children, Kimberly (Ryan) Abalan, Aubriann (Nick) Koeune, and Brandon Holl; grandchildren, Lucy and Claire Abalan, Peyton, Grayson, and Addison Koeune; his siblings, Steve (Debi) Holl and Kathy Holl; brother-in-law, Gary Braun; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Harv) Fifield, Cheryl (Ken) Kohn, Lori (Scott) Kroll; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jim was born on January 1, 1961, to Isadore and Anna Holl. He graduated from Gillett High School with the class of 1979 and received an associate degree from Moraine Park Technical College. Jim and Karla were high school sweethearts and were married on May 29, 1982. Jim retired from being a service technician for Coin Appliances and Hughes Enterprises. He traveled all over the state of Wisconsin to service laundry machines in various apartment complexes and developed friendships with all his clients.
Jim was always ready to help fix, build or serve, no matter how hard the task or time of day. He could learn to do just about anything and everything he did was expert level. He built a stone patio for his wife which became the family project that summer, laid tile flooring, landscaped and maintained a meticulous yard, built decks, took up carpentry to make furniture for his children and toys for his grandkids. During the 3 ½ years his son was fighting leukemia, Jim became his fulltime caregiver at home and managed all his medications and weekly trips to Children’s Hospital. Needless to say, they were best buddies after conquering that battle.
Jim could talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything. Chances are you have had a conversation or two with him if you live anywhere in Wisconsin. Jim was a member of the Larsen-Winchester Lion’s Club for more than 15 years, helping run the semi-annual pancake breakfast events and build wheelchair ramps.
Jim was preceded in death by an infant sister, Barbara; his parents, Isadore and Anna Holl; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Mary Braun; grandparents; a nephew, Joey; sister-in-law, Jeanne; and beloved aunts and uncles.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, 8396 Steeple Hill Drive, Larsen. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with a service to be held at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Mark Laatsch will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
