Thomas Verkuilen, 83, of Winneconne died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born January 28, 1941, in Kaukauna, WI to the late Alvin and Gertrude (Stark) Verkuilen. 

Tom was a graduate of Appleton High School. After being honorably discharged from serving in the U.S. Coast Guard he returned home to Winneconne to help run the family business, Lakeside Marina, which had multiple locations throughout northeast Wisconsin.

On February 19, 1966, Tom married Jeane Carpenter and they had two children, Tim and Amy. Jeane preceded Tom in death on December 2, 1993. 

After retirement in 2001, Tom started Marine Systems, a pile driving business. In 2019 he married his best friend and loving partner, Julie Teclaw.

He enjoyed boating, road trips, spending winters in Florida, socializing, and can be remembered for playing his humstrum or simply being the life of the party.

Tom is survived by his wife, Julie Teclaw; his children, Tim Verkuilen and Amy (Billy) Struensee; nephews, Mike Verkuilen, Mark (Leslie) Verkuilen; and many loving members of the Verkuilen, Carpenter and Teclaw families.

Along with his parents and first wife, Tom was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Butch and Charlotte Verkuilen; brother-in-law, Dan Carpenter; and Carlene Verkuilen, wife of Al Verkuilen; in-laws, Helen and Melvin Carpenter and Al and Kathy Teclaw.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home with Deacon Paul Vidmar officiating. Military honors will then follow, and a committal service and interment will be in the Winneconne Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, all monetary donations will be put towards a Boat Cleaning Station at Lake Winneconne Park in Tom’s name.

Julie, Amy, and Tim we are so sorry for your loss, our deepest condolences. Tom was one sweet and loving man. Lots of memories. Will always remember him from first meeting him at Lakeside Marina where we rented our first slip from Tom. Then so many memories at The Other Place and Butte Des Mort Supper Club. Fly high with the angels Tom. Always remembered.
