Donald (“Don” or “Donnie”) Irving Hanson, Jr. of Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, and Leesburg, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, with his daughter at his side.

Don was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper, father, brother, and friend.

He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on May 10, 1940, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-1962. Don worked at Winnebago Mental Health Institute for many years and used to own Hanson’s Bar in Omro with his brother Lynn. He retired at the young age of 52. During retirement, he was a fishing guide almost every summer at Clark’s Resorts and Outposts in Ontario, Canada. He enjoyed spending time in Canada with Kathy, his mom, Lonny and Cherrie and all of his Clark family. They made shirts for everyone that said, “When they see me, they surrender” with a picture of him pointing to the fish. In addition, he spent much of his time fishing in Omro, Wisconsin, and in the Northwoods during the warmer months and in Florida during the winter. If he caught you in his fishing spot, you better move out of the way, or he would be sure to tell you to. Up North, he enjoyed watching for the bear and deer to come in. When he was in high school, his parents thought he went to school. He would leave and go home and get his fishing poles and go fishing.

Don was the son of the late Verna and Donald Hanson Sr. from Omro, Wisconsin.

He leaves behind his girlfriend of 43 years, Kathy Hales; and her children, Tony and Tracey; his brothers, Lonnie (Cherrie) and Lynn (Carole); his sisters, Shirley Rhymer and Nancy (Lou) Liggio; a daughter, Michele (Tom) Tuchscherer, a son, Kurt (Jamie) Hanson. He also leaves behind his granddaughter and grandson, Kayla (Connor) Bloede, and Ryan (Brooke) Bloede.

Besides his parents, Don was also preceded in death by a son, Eric Hanson; and his brothers-in-law, Jigs Rhymer and Gary Schnieder; and a sister-in-law, Judy Hanson.

Donnie’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to his Florida family for taking exceptional care of him and being there for him while he was at his winter home, especially Joe and Connie Young, he treasured their friendship deeply. He enjoyed spending time with them and the rest of his Florida family and Friday Fish Fries in Florida won’t be quite the same anymore. He looked forward to being with his extended family and he made sure to always hide an extra piece of pie that Joanne and Paula made before it was gone.

Don did not wish to have a funeral upon his passing, and his wishes will be respected. We would encourage his friends to get together and have their own Celebration of Life for him, to share memories and swap stories of how he touched their lives. Be sure to toast a brandy and 7 in his memory.

A private interment with military honors will be held at the Omro Cemetery.

Mueller Funeral Home-Winneconne is assisting the family. If you wish, please submit online condolences/memories to muellerfh.net.

There was never a dull moment with Davey Tuchscherer. He was a bright soul filled with an intelligent and unique perspective on the world. Since we heard about the accident, we are reminded of all the memories we shared with Davey. He truly had a one-of-a-kind personality that drew people towards him. We will continually be praying over Davey's family and friends as we all grieve over this sudden loss. We pray this tragic event will result in healing and bring many closer to the Lord. Let us be reminded to not take any day for granted but value every moment the Lord has given us.

It is hard to comprehend such a tremendous loss. My heart goes out to Davey’s family. ?? I had the privilege of Davey working for me for several years at the Parks Department. He was one of the most genuine, polite and kind kids. I will always smile when I think of him riding his uni-cycle to work, strolling down the river in his mini tugboat or walking around the lake with his dog. The world can definitely learn something from his enthusiasm for life and positive outlook. Gone far, far too soon. Rest easy Davey. ??Thanks for the memories. Apr 1, 2024 ?|? Reply

Davey and I worked together at the Park for so many summers, I lost count. Anytime we worked together, I knew it would be a good day. Davey was the kind of guy that held open doors and smiled at everyone. He always laughed at my jokes. He was such a joy to be around. I am sure he touched the hearts of everyone he met and the world is a little darker without him in it. I am still shocked by the news myself. I can't imagine why God needed him now but I'm certain we will see Davey again.

I do not know the Tuchscherer family but I was drawn in by the beautifully written homage to their beloved son "Davey". It was a heartfelt tribute to "Davey" and his legacy. I'm sure you are hurting right now but please take solace in knowing "Davey" is being well taken care of by a higher power. Please, do not mourn your loss but rather celebrate his life. I'm sure family and friends have many wonderful memories of "Davey". Take time to listen and remember every one of them.

It is with a heavy heart that I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow Marines of Davey Tuchscherer. Though my time with Davey at MWSS-373 was brief, his enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, and zest for life left an indelible mark on all of us. Davey was the embodiment of a Marine with a bright future, always ready to meet the next challenge with a smile. His loss is felt deeply within our community, and we mourn a life taken far too soon. To Davey’s family: please know that you are not alone in your grief. Davey's spirit and joyous energy touched many, and his memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know him. In these difficult times, may we find comfort in the legacy of light and love he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Davey. Your legacy will forever be remembered within the hearts of those who had the honor of crossing paths with you. Until Valhalla.

It is an honor to be a part of your lives. I will never forget the energy Davey brought to a room and the positive attitude he displayed in all he did. He touched many peoples lives and created memories that will last in others hearts forever. One such memory is from when he worked at Two Brothers and waited for my now wife and I on our first date. Thank you Tuchscherer family for raising an amazing young man and encouraging him as a Marine. Davey had an Indomitable Human Spirit. I will continue to keep Davey and his family in my prayers. “Before he fell, Icarus flew.”
