Leo James Esch, 85, of Winneconne, died early Sunday morning, May 5, 2024, at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. He was born October 16, 1938, in Milwaukee to Henry and Alyce (Netik) Esch. Leo graduated from high school in 1956. He joined the Army National Guard and served with the Red Arrow Division during the Berlin Crisis. On December 7, 1963, he married Doris Zarling Brewer, inheriting two sons, Jim and Jerry Brewer, and adding one, John Esch. Leo had worked for J.I. Case in Winneconne, Leach in Oshkosh, Curtis Industries, and Courtney & Plummer. In 1976 he opened Leo’s Service in Winneconne, where he still loved going and bs’ing with people there. Leo loved any day at a race track and watching golf on tv. He belonged to the Red Arrow Club, St. Joe’s Benevolent Society, Tripoli Shrine, Tripoli Antique Auto, Scottish Rite, Winnebagoland Shrine, Mascoutin Shrine, Winneconne Masonic Lodge 186, and the Giles-Luce American Legion Post 364 in Winneconne.

Leo is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Esch; sons, James (Deb) Brewer, Jerry (Tammy) Brewer, John (Deb) Esch; grandchildren, Sara (Paul) Abel, Erin Longworth, Josh (Shanna) Brewer, Jamie (Adam) Halder, Jake Brewer, Oren (Sam) Blazberg, Amber Seifert, Conner Seifert, Ashley Seifert, Autumn (Connor) Stam; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Jovanovich; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Leo in death were his father, Henry Esch; mother and stepfather, Alyce and William Schulz; and a brother, Charles Esch.  

A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 210 Pleasant Drive Winneconne. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. A Masonic Service and Military honors will follow. Interment will be on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Rushford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leo’s name are being established for the Winneconne Masonic Lodge 186 and the American Legion Post 364-Winneconne.

To the entire Each/Brewer families you have my sympathy for your loss. I enjoyed my talks in the mornings with Leo at the shop when I was working. He always made me laugh. He will be missed by many.
