Georgia A. Tillema, 85, found peace on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at home with her family. She was the loving wife of John Tillema for 60 years; the couple married in Markesan, WI, on August 10, 1963. Georgia was proud and caring mother of Andrew Tillema of Peoria, IL, and Julie (George) Hernandez of Roscoe, IL.  She had two grandchildren, James and Kelly Hernandez of Roscoe, IL.

Georgia attended Wheaton (IL) High School and graduated from Ripon College in 1960, majoring in Biology and Physical Education. She taught these subjects at Markesan High School for 3 years before meeting her husband-to-be, John Tillema. John and Georgia lived in West Allis, WI for a time before settling back in Markesan, where they worked together for 14 years at Tillema Jewelers. Georgia was an avid and competitive golfer at Tuscumbia Golf Course and enjoyed snowmobiling and playing Bridge.

In 1979, John and Georgia moved to Winneconne, WI, where she was Office Manager for John’s American Family Insurance Agency. They worked together for the next 27 years.  She enjoyed playing golf in the ladies’ league at Winchester Hill Golf Course, bowling, and living life on the lake. Georgia and John retired in 2006. She continued golfing, playing Poker with family, and tending to her geranium flowers.

Georgia was preceded in death by her father and mother, Walter and Nellie (Kelly) Alcher; her sister, Harriet “Jeannie” Snyder; brother-in-law, Cecil “Bob” Snyder; and her Aunt Harriet (Kelly) Rotunno.

There will be a private burial service at Markesan Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Georgia’s Life will be held Wednesday June 26, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fin n Feather 22 W. Main St. in Winneconne. Refreshments and appetizers will be served.  Casual attire.

Georgia loved cats, so instead of flowers, she asked for donations to be made to the Neenah Animal Shelter. link to neenahanimalshelter.org
