Russell E. Stone, 93, of Omro went to his heavenly home on December 7, 2024. He was born on July 2, 1931, to George and Edna (Dodd) Stone. He graduated from Omro High School in 1949 and then attended the Agriculture Short Course in Madison. He worked for Cowan Dairy until he was drafted by the Army. Russ proudly served our country from 1954 - 1956 in Austria and Germany.

Upon his return he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Miller, at Grace Lutheran Church in Omro on September 29, 1956. Together they built their home on her family farm where they raised their 3 children. Russell was a hard worker; he cash-cropped the land, raised beef cattle, and still left early every morning for his full-time job as an iron worker at Griese and Ross for 31 years.

Russ also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, making them smile with a good joke, or visiting someone when they were down. He loved planting and harvesting his crops, reading, playing golf or a good game of cards. Russ and Lois also enjoyed traveling. They traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the Panama Canal, Alaska, and throughout the United States. He had many interests and enjoyed many things, but most of all he loved having his family around him. We thank God for the gift of his presence in our lives.

Russ was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Omro where he served as an elder and an usher for many years.

He is survived and will be missed by his wife Lois; children, Lori (Scott) Schuman, Juli (Steve) Retzlaff and Greg (Kim) Stone; grandchildren, Zachary (Jackie) Schuman, Kyle (Meaghan) Retzlaff, Brady (Marissa) Retzlaff, Logan (Kaitlyn) Schuman and Samantha Stone; and great-grandchildren, Gracie, Marty, Callie, Maya, Wyn, Alaila, and Sadie. Russ is also survived by his sister, Norie Tritt; brother, Leonard Stone; sister-in-law, Ruth Stone; and many nieces and nephews.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean (Arlyn) Hollander; brother, Rex Stone; brother-in-law, Jim Tritt; sister-in-law, Marie Stone; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Charles) Retzlaff; and sister-in-law, Beverly (LuVerne) Korth.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Grace Lutheran Church, Omro and Omro-Rushford Joint Fire Department.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church 720 Jackson Ave. Omro. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Wenzel officiating. Military honors will follow and burial will be in the Omro Cemetery.
