Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Wayne Francis Kallas, 88, of the Town of Poygan, died Friday, January 24, 2025, at Ascension Mercy Hospital after a long battle with health problems. He was born November 22, 1936, to Walter and Myrtle (Hess) Kallas. Wayne was a 1954 graduate of Omro High School, where he was class president and Prom King. He took dance lessons at Arthur Murray’s so he could dance with his Prom Queen. After graduation, Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army for 3 years. Until he was involved in a car accident, he worked construction. He also worked at a cheese factory, tended bar, and worked at his grandparent’s farm. For 30 years Wayne was employed at the Winnebago State Hospital until his retirement. On June 26, 1965, he married Judy Achterberg. Wayne enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, and he loved his grandchildren and family. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Omro.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy C. Kallas, of the Town of Poygan; three sons, Rick (Betty), Randy (friend, Linda), Robin (Lisa); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jason (Trisha), Robert (Ailiyah), Taylor, Austin, Bently, Braylen, James, Kole, Jay, Josh (Nicole), Angel, Bryer, Justin Sr., Justin Jr., Abel, Winter, Roy, Becky, Nicole, Aurora, Harley, Rachel (Alex), Cooper, Dakota (Laura); three sisters, Jeanne (Sherwyn) Danke, Shirley (Dick) Ceelen, Chris Hanke; many nieces, nephews, other relatives; special friends, Web, Ed, Bobby, and many more. He is also survived by his little red truck.
Preceding Wayne in death were his parents; his in-laws; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ruth Ann Kallas; a sister and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Robert Gruetzmacher, Paul Hanke; as well as great friend for years, Ken H.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 730 Madison Ave. Omro. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rushford Cemetery.
