Elizabeth “Betsy” Borchert, 64, of Larsen, died Thursday, February 13, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Betsy was born August 13, 1960, to Donald and Arlene (Coenen) Netzel. After high school Betsy worked painting houses, at a candle shop, and at Kimberly-Clark for 13 years. On January 24, 1981, she married Jack Borchert. Betsy raised three sons while working for both family businesses, Borchert Farms and Larsen Materials. She loved gardening, decorating her home as well as her friend’s homes, playing pool, gambling, traveling with friends to the Caribbean, Mexico, and the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming. Betsy truly enjoyed time spent at the sandpit, snowmobiling, fishing, grilling, and just having a good ole time with family and friends. She would dress head to toe in Packer gear for Packer parties and every Packer first down was signaled with a “mooove the chains”.

Betsy loved her husband, kids, and grandkids and wished she would have had more quality time with them. She will be remembered as easy going and fun loving and will be dearly missed. Surviving her are: her husband of 44 years, Jack Borchert; sons, Jeff Borchert, Joe (Katie) Borchert, Jake Borchert (Victoria); granddaughters, Kenadie, Keira, and Rylie. She is also survived by siblings, Dan (Barb) Netzel, Ellen (Jim) Sprague, Marty (Jodi) Netzel; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Arlene Netzel; and a brother, Mike Netzel.

A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. There will be no service held. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Clayton Cemetery.

My mom, Arlene Kellerman Drews, taught at the Royer School and she often spoke of Peter as one of her favorite students. In later years they met at the Winchester Historical Society meetings - that gave her many hours of pleasure. Good things came out of the Rural one room schools!!!

Pete was a great cousin and an authority along with his wife on our family. He compiled an extensive history of the "Christiansons" and this work will live forever. His strength of spirit showed so often in the many volunteer projects he lead. I send Barry and Coral my deep felt condolences with lots of memories of a great man.

I worked for Winnebago County and met Pete in 1990 when I started worked in Neenah as a social worker. We collaborated on some difficult cases and I admired Pete's work ethic, compassion and realistic approach. He was always fun to be around and a blessing to all fortunate to have known him. I recently was at the Larsen Lions Club to obtain some equipment and when there, I always asked to see Pete. Unfortunately he was not there on February 4th, he wasn't there. My sympathy to his family and fiancé.

I served with Major Christianson at 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl, West Germany. This was during the Cold War years. As an enlisted Soldier at the time, I found him to be kind, confident, positive and set a great standard among the troops. He was a true Patriot. God Bless his family.

My sympathy to Sue and to Pete's family. I got to know Pete through our many Wisconsin Retired Educators' Association (WREA) events. It was always a highlight for me during these events to sit down & to talk with Pete. One always knew where Pete stood on any issue; he was not a man to have the proverbial "hidden agenda"! He will be greatly missed by us all. Paul Murphey (Richland Center, WI)
