Robert Botello, age 76, of Winneconne passed away Monday, March 5, 2018, at home. He was born December 16, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Harry and Ann (Torres) Serrano, and was raised by his grandparents, Jose and Amelia Botello. Bob was a graduate of Washington High School in East Chicago, Indiana. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 -1965. On December 17, 1966, Bob married Virginia Lopez in Hammond, Indiana. Bob worked as a millwright for Inland Steel in East Chicago for 32 years until his retirement. After his retirement, Bob and Virginia relocated from Schereville, Indiana to Winneconne in 1996. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Giles-Luce American Legion Post 364, Winneconne and volunteered whenever he could for these organizations. He will be remembered for fishing, rooting for Chicago Cubs, nicknames he gave others, playing cards, socializing with friends, thirst for a beer while telling stories, building things with all his tools, barbeques, and the times he shared at family events.
Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Botello; his children, John Michael Nava (Mari Casas), Veronica (Mark) Beriau, Robert (Rosie) Botello, Victoria (Mark) Frazier; grandchildren, Jeremias Casas, Dalton, Catalina, and Brooke Beriau, Mauricio and Alina Botello, Farah, Lana, and Ava Frazier; two brothers, David (Teresa) Vazquez, Arthur (Lupe) Vazquez; a sister, Joanne Wakefield; and other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents and grandparents, Bob was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Frazier; and a brother, Richard "Ricky" Vazquez.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Fr. Matthew Rappl and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made the Winneconne Area Assistance Center or the Omro Food Pantry.
