John Zitzner, age 89, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. John was born to John T. and Helen (Hagen) of Viroqua WI, December 21, 1935. He grew up on a farm spending many summers in the tobacco fields. After graduating from Viroqua H.S. in 1954 John served in the U.S. Navy doing 2 years active duty and 6 years in the Reserves. He met his future wife, Carol Johnson (Winchester, WI), at UW-La Crosse. They were married August 16, 1958. John and Carol operated their business, Central Supply Company, and lived in Brookfield, WI until 2005, then retired in Winneconne. 

John enjoyed many activities including flying airplanes, skiing (ski patrol and avalanche training), golfing and boating in the waters of Lake Winnebago. John's favorite time of the day was sharing early morning coffee with his buddies, Al, Red, John, Don and many others.

John is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Starlene (Clint) Harris, of Olive Branch, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jason (Traci) Harris and Jessica (Dustin) Bradshaw; great-grandchildren, JD Harris, Griffin Bradshaw, Collins and Carter Bradshaw, all from Olive Branch, Mississippi; sister, Jeanne Nelson, of Viroqua, WI; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding John in death were his parents, John T. and Helen Zitzner; and sister, Joyce Funk, Viroqua, WI.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A service will be held on Saturday at 11:30 at the funeral home with Pastor Ken LaPlante officiating. Please join our family for a luncheon at the Fin n Feather after the service. Inurnment will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Winchester. 

Memorials will be given to the American Heart Association.
