Wesley Reed Potratz (July 29, 2025) passed into peace with God after a courageous battle with leukemia.  Wesley was the greatest blessing in the life of his parents, McCara and Derek Potratz.  Though deeply saddened, his parents are comforted that Wesley is now pain-free and they will see him again.

He was named after his grandfather, Wesley Jay Potratz, a deeply admired family role model. Baby Wesley inherited his grandfather's resilient spirit, immediately proving to be a stubborn fighter who was determined to overcome every obstacle.
Shortly after his birth, Wesley was diagnosed with congenital leukemia. For seven weeks, he battled the disease and the harsh effects of treatment with unbelievable resolve. Wesley's determination and spirit amazed his doctors; he always seemed to prove them wrong. He endured more in his short life than many do in a lifetime and leaves behind a legacy of absolute courage. McCara and Derek remained constantly at Wesley's side, advocating fiercely for their son.

Wesley is succeeded by parents: Derek and McCara Potratz.  Grandparents: Wesley, Lorie Potratz, and Robert, Kari Steinhilber. Aunts and Uncles: Matthew (Laurie) Potratz, Jon (Anna) Potratz, Kelsey Potratz, Marsden (Jacob) Suchomel, Mason Steinhilber, Merrin Steinhilber, Cousins: Isabelle, Genevieve, Emmett.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 27, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church (913 Nebraska St. Oshkosh WI.) at 10 a.m.   Private family burial will be held.

The family is deeply grateful for the unwavering support of their employers, family and friends, the indispensable aid of the Ronald McDonald House, and the dedicated doctors and staff at American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison.  They wish to especially thank the nursing staff—Wesley’s "angels on earth"—who provided immense love and care, often arguing over who would get to be assigned to his room each day.
Wesley Reed was a light of love and a beacon of relentless strength. He will be forever cherished by his parents, McCara and Derek.

Mueller Funeral Home in Winneconne is assisting the family.

God bless little Wesley and know the Angels of Heaven are holding and protecting him and giving him all their comfort. We can’t know why the lily has so brief a time to bloom in the warmth of sunlight’s kiss upon its face. Before it folds its fragrance in and bids the world good night to rest its beauty in a gentler place. But we know that nothing that is loved is ever lost, and no one who has ever touched a heart can really pass away, because some beauty lingers on in each memory of which they’ve been part.
