Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
Gary A. Jones, age 79, was taken to heaven on Saturday, May 26, 2018, after a battle with heart disease. He was born September 6, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Indiana the son of Wayne and Ruby (Richardson) Jones.
Starting in 1956 he served 7 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Gary attended UW-Oshkosh for drafting. He spent 42 years at Leach Company in Oshkosh before retiring from the engineering department where he designed the front end loader and the 2RII garbage truck.
Gary loved spending time with his family at the Jones Conover Cabin and hosting family gatherings. Of the many activities in his life there were stock car racing, gardening, hunting, fishing, watching DVD's, and reading the gossip "rags". He toured the countryside with his dog, Maggie, including around Lake Winnebago. Gary drove his Oliver tractor about, too.
He was noted for his mechanical ability and creativity, creating toys for the grandkids or his critters. Gary could fix/make anything. Who could forget his maple syrup, holiday hams, deviled eggs, and his pies. He even delivered. Besides his dog, Maggie, his two cats, Buzzy and Charlie held a soft spot in his heart.
Gary is survived by his children, Sheri (Jones) Rilling, Amy (Jones) Harper, Zachery Jones, and Teri Jones; grandchildren, Eric Rilling (fiancée, Laci Krause), Ashley Koss (special friend, Logan Simonson), Jacob Koss, Kaleigh Gerson, Seth Harper, and Levi Harper; sisters, Barbara (Doug) Von Hoff, Sally Merten, Nancy (Luke) Rowland; a brother, David (Lynn) Jones; and many special nephews, nieces, and friends.
Preceding Gary in death were his parents; sisters, Susy (Jones) Steiner, and Virginia (Jones) Pommerening; and a brother, Robin Jones.
Thanks to all who prayed, supported us, and visited Gary, he treasured each visit.
A special thanks to all of his doctors, including Dr. Abouzelam and team at St. Elizabeth in Appleton. Also, the second floor staff of the Freemont Tower for their PATIENT and professional care, and to the Affinity Hospice staff for their TLC and support.
