Merry A. Koerner, age 78, of Winneconne, early on the morning of Tuesday, July 17, 2018, died unexpectedly in her sleep.
She was born January 10, 1940, in the township of Rushford to the late Walter and Irene (Parks) Buchanan. Merry was a 1958 graduate of Winneconne High School and entered the workforce, first as a waitress and then pursuing jobs at Industrial Towel and Uniform, Ben Franklin Crafts, Piggly Wiggly, and at Winneconne Community School District. Her most favorite job of all was taking care of her grandchildren during their parent's workdays. On November 12, 1960, she married Ronald C. Koerner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Winneconne where she continued to be an active member until she was reunited with her loving husband of 54 years, Ron, who passed three years ago to the day.
In her spare time, Merry enjoyed craftwork, but her main passion revolved around her family and their activities. She was adamant about attending all of her grandchildren's sporting events and hobbies. Her favorite topics to discuss were always involving how her family was doing and activities they were involved in at that time.
Merry grew up on a dairy farm in Winneconne, which was purchased in 1997 by her daughter, Michelle. For the past 6 years, Merry lived full-time at the farm where she had been raised as a child. Watching the farm transform from a dairy operation to a horse hobby farm gave her many topics of conversation to share with friends and family. The peaceful living of "the farm" gave her a lot of time to spend with the family that she adored so much.
Merry is survived by, daughter, Michelle, of Winneconne; two sons, Allan Koerner, of Winneconne; Scott(Dawn) Koerner Sr., of Neenah; grandsons, Joshua, Jordan, and Jacob LaMarche, of Winneconne; Scott Koerner Jr., of Neenah; sister, Mae Helmer, of Oshkosh; and brothers, Carl (Jo) Buchanan, of Minnesota; Clark (Carla) Buchanan, of Markesan; Richard Buchanan, of Fond du Lac; Roland Buchanan, of Winneconne; and Kirk (Kim) Buchanan, of Berlin; and countless nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald Koerner; parents, Walter and Irene Buchanan; brothers, Warren and Charles Buchanan.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, July 20, 2018, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 210 Pleasant Dr. Winneconne. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Fr. Tom Long and Sr. Pam Biehl officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah.
