After a courageous battle with cancer, John F. Meyerhofer was called home on Friday, September 7, 2018.
John was born on Feb 12, 1939, and was raised on a farm near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He attended Lake Geneva High School, where he was an active member of FFA, and graduated in 1957. After graduation, John moved to the Winneconne area, started a family and began working at Zimmerman Mink Ranch as a foreman.
Later in his career, John worked as a truck driver for Trans Star, ORT, and Viking Steel. While with Trans Star, John maintained an impressive safety record, being recognized for logging a million miles with no accidents. In 1988, John married Lori Zimmerman, and in 2001, he and Lori moved to Palm Desert, California. John then became self-employed as a Maintenance Specialist at Chaparral Country Club.
In 2013, John, Lori, and their family moved back to the Winneconne area, where he retired and enjoyed gardening and working with his tractor on his hobby farm. John was an avid reader his entire life, and loved to collect western and mystery novels. He also enjoyed caring for a variety of farm animals, and always loved the companionship of dogs, most recently being Charlie, Oreo and Tank.
During his lifetime, John was a volunteer firefighter for the Winneconne/Poygan Volunteer Fire Department, and an adult volunteer for the Poygan Go-Getters 4-H Club. A member of Ducks Unlimited, John was an avid small game hunter. He also enjoyed bowling and was an excellent roller skater.
John is survived by his wife, Lori; and his children, John L. Meyerhofer(Marcia Nachtrab), Winneconne; Joyce (Marcos) Montes, La Mesa, New Mexico; Janet (Jim) White, Clinton, Massachusetts; Jean (Keith) Neubauer, Winneconne; Jim Meyerhofer, Las Cruces, New Mexico; Anna Meyerhofer, Winneconne; and Nadia Meyerhofer, Winneconne; grandsons, Preston Neubauer, Winneconne; and Curtis Neubauer, Appleton; siblings Dorothy (Roger) North, Cookeville, Tennessee; Betty Leader, Winneconne; Joann Meyerhofer, Winneconne; and Ed Crowley, Winneconne; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Ginny Lynn; and numerous aunts and uncles.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday, September 13, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home 904 E. Main St. Winneconne. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rose McCurdy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, John's family would like to request donations be made to Agnesian Health Care Hospice in Fond du Lac.
John's family would like to thank the Hospice team with Agnesian Health Care Hospice for their loving care and compassion, along with his team of doctors at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and Agnesian Cancer Center in Fond du Lac.
