Where Caring Is A Family Tradition
James E. Thompson, age 84, of the town of Clayton, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Park View Health Center, Oshkosh surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 21, 1934, in Neenah to Gordon and Bernice (Kuckenbecker) Thompson. Jim was a graduate of Neenah High School. During the Korean War he served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Colahan. On September 15, 1956, Jim married Patricia Spiegelberg in Greenville. Jim farmed in the town of Clayton until his retirement, but he truly never retired and was still planting and advising his son Paul up until his death. Much pride was taken in his farm. His hobbies included ice fishing, hunting, fishing, gardening, and bowling. Jim also enjoyed reunions with Navy friends, family picnics at Farm Park, and going to Amish auctions buying doughnuts. Jim's daughter Kim arranged for him and his son Paul to go on an Old Glory Honor Flight which he truly enjoyed.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Thompson; three children, Kim (Mark) Babbitts, Paul (Lori) Thompson, Dianne (Keith) Vanevenhoven; grandchildren, Amber (Tyler) Anderson, Jason Verstegen (special friend, Erica), Michael (Katie) Babbitts, Michelle Babbitts (special friend, Mark Heil), and Jacob Thompson; great-grandchildren, Ben and Natalie Anderson; a sister, Joan (Eugene) Eake; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, June Thompson, Felix and Sheri Yaeso, Jean Spiegelberg; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Gordon Thompson, Bernice Thompson Swatscheno; his stepfather, Oscar Swatscheno; a brother, Richard Thompson; sisters, Ruth Eake and Helen Thompson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Leola Spiegelberg; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Eake, Robert Spiegelberg.
A visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church 140 S. Green Bay Rd. Neenah. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Bob Wilkinson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clayton Cemetery.
Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the Old Glory Honor Flight or St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
