Elmo Carroll Merry
Omro, WI

Elmo Carroll Merry went to eternal peace on June 1, 2010, at his residence at Webster Manor in Omro.
He was born December 25, 1922, near Bloom City, WI, to William and Ruby (Bender) Merry.
As a young man he helped on the family farm and cut and skidded timber for his father's sawmill in Richland Center. Elmo attended and graduated from Richland Center High School and served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater at the close of World War II.
He married Helen Evelyn Peaslee on May 4, 1944, and they farmed on English Ridge near Richland Center. Elmo and Helen moved to the Oshkosh area in 1956 where he became a technician with the U. S. Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service serving Winnebago County. Elmo retired from there in 1976.
During those years he also served on the Omro School Board, was very active with the Wee Three 4-H Club, and was a long-time member of the Omro Kiwanis. Elmo was a lifelong blood donor and volunteer with the American Red Cross. In his retirement he worked as a volunteer with the Overflow Food Pantry in Omro.
He will always be remembered as a true gentle man.
Elmo is survived by a brother, Gordon, of Sun Prairie, WI; sisters, Virginia McCauley, Hillsboro, WI; and Velda Jean (Lester) Marshall, Madison, WI; two sons, Arthur R. (Jean), Oshkosh; and Carroll E. (Jean), Germantown. Elmo was preceded in death by his parents; Helen, his wife of 65 years; and brothers, Durward and Merlyn.
He was the loved grandfather of seven: Elizabeth (Richard) Turnage, St. Cloud; Victoria Merry, Phoenix, AZ; JaNelle Merry, Shiocton; Anne (Jason) Rosenau, Neenah; Jennifer Hargraves, Hartford; Jeffrey (Maria) Rash, Stuttgart, Germany; and Scott (Cindy) Rash, Elgin, IL. He will be sadly missed by eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and one great-grand-dog.
A Funeral Service for Elmo will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne, with Pastor Ed Slusser officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Pratt Funeral Service in Richland Center. Interment will be in the Bloom City Cemetery immediately following the service. A Visitation will be on Monday at Pratt Funeral Service from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
