Neoma V. Miller, age 96, of Oshkosh, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 23, 2010, at home. She was born June 29, 1914, in Winneconne, to the late Paul and Emma (Dreger) Hanneman. On February 12, 1948, Neoma married Fred Miller in Winneconne, and he preceded her in death in 1989. In 1934 Neoma started her teaching career with a one year teaching degree from the Common Schools of Wisconsin. She continued her education culminating in her earning a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1962. For 27 years Neoma taught in rural schools teaching first through eighth grades, before moving on to teach only the lower grades (first and second) until her retirement in 1976. Two of the area schools she taught in through her career were the Blue Bell School in Waukau and the Plainview School. Neoma was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Omro. She was an avid Packer fan.
Neoma is survived by two brothers and one sister, Marvin Hanneman, of Oak Creek; Etta Jean Safford, of Oshkosh and Arizona; Lyle Hanneman, of South Milwaukee; twenty nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Neoma was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Leonard, and Milton Hanneman; five sisters, Wilma Weidemann, Merle Hillman, Winzetta Eulrich, Nelda Kasuboski, and an infant, Thelma; and one nephew, Hartwell "Skip" Weidemann.
A Funeral Service for Neoma will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 720 Jackson Ave., Omro, with Pastor Richard Bartholomew officiating. Burial will follow in the Omro Cemetery. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
Neoma's family wishes to extend a special thank you to Carrie Sullivan, her special caregiver and companion, for all of the love and kindness shown to her these past several years.
