Fredrick "Fred" H. Merkey
Winneconne, Wisconsin

Fredrick "Fred" H. Merkey, age 86, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at home. He was born April 26, 1924, in the Town of Rushford to the late Fred A. and Anna (Henke) Merkey. Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with Fredrick, Lutz, and Below, Morgan Doors, and the Village of Winneconne (a job he truly enjoyed), retiring in 2004. Fred was a member of the Giles-Luce American Legion Post 364 of Winneconne.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Cindy Reynolds, of Oshkosh; step-daughter, Linda (Schmidt) Williams, of Roundo, South Carolina; son, Jeff Merkey, of Antigo; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Isabelle and Robert Jacobson, of Neenah; Olive and Geno Kempken, of Tomahawk; nieces and nephews; his former wife, Joyce Vogel; his extended family, Paul, Wilbur, and Carrie, who are the children of Kathy Henke; special neighbors, Donna Krueger, and Lou Kartman; and his beloved dog, Moonie.
Along with his parents, Fred was also preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Margie Merkey; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lona and Orin Freeman, and Elaine and Pat Trapp.
A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home, Winneconne. Cremation will follow. A Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
